About
Hamptonian Chartology
Crack the Code. Read the Sky.
Students learn sectional charts by using one. Every lesson happens on real FAA chart imagery, with FAA data wired underneath it so the app can tell what you tapped and whether you're right.
Sources
- Chart imagery
- FAA VFR Raster Charts — Sectional GeoTIFF, via the FAA Aeronautical Product Release API. Tiled without alteration; overlays are drawn on top.
- Georeferencing
- The GeoTIFF's own Lambert Conformal Conic parameters and world file, so every coordinate lands on the printed chart.
- Airports, runways, frequencies, NAVAIDs, parachute & activity areas, MTRs
- FAA NASR 28-day subscription (National Flight Data Center).
- Class B/C/D/E airspace, special use airspace, obstacles
- FAA Aeronautical Data Delivery Service (ADDS) — Class_Airspace, Special_Use_Airspace, Digital_Obstacle_File.
- Terrain elevations
- AWS Terrain Tiles (USGS 3DEP / SRTM). Used for profiles, cross-sections and terrain X-ray — never invented.
- Symbol meanings
- FAA Aeronautical Chart Users' Guide and the chart's own printed legend.
